Power Over Fear
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 1:3)
In Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, he offers so much wisdom and guidance on how to overcome fear. In his letter, he wanted the Ephesians then, and us now, to know that the power of Christ and Christ alone was sufficient to sustain them during difficult times and enable them to live victoriously without fear.
This is key for all of us to understand, because the devil has a way of producing doubt and trepidation in our lives when it seems that God is taking a long time. In Ephesus, some walked away from the faith due to anxiety brought on by persecution and frustration associated with unmet needs. Paul directs his discourse to these vacillating Christians by helping them understand how they came to become recipients of such an amazing treasure of God’s power.
Sadly, many believers aren’t tapping into and harnessing the power that God has given them. They are like that person who doesn’t understand the benefits and privileges that comes with their membership, and rather than reaping all of the rewards of being connected, end up settling for much less than they have to. They settle for mediocrity, when God wants them to have the best. They settle for barely making it, when God wants them to thrive. They settle for average faith, average careers, and average relationships when God wants them to be the head and not the tail. And it’s all because they don’t realize the power that they already have.
My prayer is that you don’t live like these people, but rather you harness the all-encompassing power God has made available to you so that you don’t have to live in fear. Take Paul’s words of wisdom and remember that you have everything you need to overcome any hardship or anxiety that comes your way, all because you are a part of God’s family.
