Interceding For Others
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. (James 5:16)
God calls each and every one of us to stand in the gap whenever, wherever, and however there is a need in the world, in the community, or in our families. Where there is injustice in the world, we are to oppose it. Where there is pain and suffering in our community, we are to confront it. And whatever threatens the spiritual, physical, and mental stability of our families, we must stand against it.
God is looking for bold, courageous, and spirit-filled believers who will stand in the gap for the less fortunate, for the marginalized, and for the downtrodden—those who are often forgotten, ignored, and pushed to the fringes of society.
Such a position in the church is called being an intercessor. Intercession entails intervening on behalf of others. It could be an act of advocacy, an action of meditation, or most importantly, it can be and is often in Scripture an act of prayer.
Throughout the Word of God, the Lord calls and challenges those of us who claim to be concerned about the well-being of the world to stand against the forces of death and darkness that seek to destroy what God has established. The best way we can do that is by going to the Lord in prayer on behalf of those who are being impacted by darkness.
Is there someone you need to intercede for today? Is there someone you know who is struggling and needs to be lifted up in prayer? If so, my hope is that you will take time today to pray for that person, and that you will ask God to show up in their life in a big way.
