Keep Your Community Connection
Then Esther sent this reply to Mordecai: “Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.” So Mordecai went away and carried out all of Esther’s instructions. (Esther 4:15-17)
One of the greatest things about being a follower of Jesus is the community that comes with it. Community and fellowship with other believers are wonderful gifts from the Lord, one that we should never dismiss or take for granted. Rather, we should be thankful that when we go through the hard times in life, we have people to walk with us, encourage us, and pray with us.
The story of Esther gives us a great example of what true, godly community looks like. While it’s true that Ester sets out to answer God’s call on her life and make a difference, she doesn’t do it on her own. She is in the palace, married to the king, but she tells her uncle Mordecai to have her people begin fasting on her behalf.
She has all of that power and access, but she is still connected to a community: a community of worshippers and a community of people who pray.
In the same way, we should never lose our connection to our community, nor should we lose our connection to God. Let’s not forget the people who build our community and keep us close to God.
