Just Keep Driving
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. (Romans 12:12)
I once heard a story about a young man who was driving his grandfather someplace during a storm. As they were driving along the highway, the rain started to get heavier and heavier, to the point where the storm was making the young man’s vision blurry.
Worried about the storm, he asked his grandfather if he should pull over. His grandfather replied, “No son. Just keep driving.” It started to hail, and the young man noticed that other cars started pulling off the road. So he asked again, “Grandpa, should we pull over?” “No,” the grandad replied, “Drive slowly and just keep moving.”
As he did, the wind started blowing, and big trucks had now started pulling over. The young man was really concerned about continuing, so he said to his grandfather, “We have to pull over now grandpa. Look at all the cars and trucks on the side of the road.” But his grandfather said “Son, put your hazards on, drive slowly, but don’t pull over.”
As they proceeded, they discovered that the once they arrived at their destination, the storm had ceased. His grandfather said to the young man, “Now son, I want you to pull over.” And looking puzzled the grandson asked, “Why do you want me to pull over now? You didn’t want me to pull over when it was raining, when it was hailing. Why now?”
His grandad said, “Just pull over and I want you to look back and tell me what you see.” When the boy pulled over and looked back, he realized that everybody who pulled over was still in the storm, but they had made it through the storm.
There will be times in your life you will find yourself in a storm. Bad things will happen. People will let you down. Disappointments will come your way. But when you find yourself in a storm of hurt, sadness, and pain, just keep driving and don’t pull over. Your deliverance is on the other side of this storm. Your miracle is on the other side of this conflict. Your healing is on the other side of this tragedy. So just keep moving forward and don’t give up. You too will make it through the storm.
