The Power of Christ’s Love
I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” (Revelation 3:19-20)
To the churches in Asia Minor who were wondering if Christ’s words would work in their lives, Jesus concludes the third chapter of Revelation saying, “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends” (v. 20). In other words, Jesus is saying if they would just let Him into their lives, He could demonstrate that His words would work for them.
Then according to verses 7 and 19 in the same chapter, Jesus is making it clear that He wants to help them because He loves them. He says in verse 19, “I correct and discipline everyone I love.” He’s basically saying that He is correcting them and redirecting them because He loves them and wants what’s best for them.
It was a love that Isaiah foreshadowed in Isaiah 53:5 when he said that the coming Messiah would be “wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
Jesus endured all of that pain and suffering out of His love for all of us. He is knocking at the door of our lives and wants us to let Him in because He loves us. Won’t you open the door for Him today and accept His unconditional love for you?
