It’s Time to Make the Shift
"Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, 'Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.'" - Matthew 2:1-2
The wise men’s journey to find Jesus wasn’t easy. They came from a place far off, traveling through rough terrain, facing obstacles, and enduring hardships. They didn’t know exactly where they were going, but they were determined to follow the star and find the King. Their willingness to leave what was familiar, to venture into the unknown, and to endure a difficult journey speaks volumes about their commitment to something greater.
In our own lives, the pursuit of something better, something greater, often requires us to make a shift. Like the wise men, we may find ourselves at a crossroads where we must decide if we’re willing to leave behind the comforts of the familiar in order to move forward.
The wise men didn’t stay where they were because it was comfortable. They didn’t say, “This is good enough.” Instead, they chose to step out of their comfort zones, trusting that the journey would be worth it.
This principle holds true for us today. If you want to experience something different in your life, whether that’s growing closer to God, reaching new heights in your career, or finding peace in your relationships, you may need to make a shift.
That shift could mean changing your habits, stepping away from toxic influences, or letting go of old mindsets that are holding you back. Just as the wise men couldn’t reach their destination by staying where they were, neither can we expect growth if we remain in the same place.
It’s not always easy to make that change. There are obstacles, doubts, and challenges along the way. But the wise men remind us that the reward on the other side of the shift is worth the sacrifice. They were willing to leave the familiar behind, and in doing so, they found something far greater than they could have imagined.
What might God be asking you to leave behind in order to make room for something new? Are there people, habits, or patterns of thinking that you need to walk away from? Shift happens when we’re willing to make those changes, to adjust our mindset, and to pursue something greater. The wise men made the shift, and in doing so, they found the Savior. What will your shift look like, and how will it lead you closer to Jesus?
