Let It Go
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” - Hebrews 12:1
There is a story of a bald eagle that was gracefully soaring over the northwestern pacific in search of food one day. In the middle of its flight, the eagle happened upon a huge salmon swimming just beneath the ocean’s surface. Being a skilled hunter, the eagle swooped down and securely placed its talons into the back of the large fish, and then it tried to lift it up into the air.
The eagle soon discovered that the salmon was too big for it to obtain any elevation, and each flap of its colossal wings were continuously hitting the water as it struggled to go higher with that large fish in its claws. The eagle’s claws dug so deep into the fish that it could not detach it talons from the animal.
As the eagle frantically flapped its wings trying to fly higher, eventually the weight of the salmon caused the eagle to be drug into the sea where it drowned because it could not separate itself from the fish.
This happens to so many people. We attach ourselves to something that is not good for us; and as we try to fly high and soar through life, we are drug down by the weight of the very thing in which we need to let go of. Hebrews 12:1 tells us to “throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.”
What are you entangled in that you need to release? Let it go, so that you can run with perseverance the race marked out for you!
