Greater Than Us
“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” - 1 John 4:4
You have a story to tell. It does not matter who you are, where you come from, or what experiences you have gone through. All of us have a story to tell. And as believers, that story is our testimony. It is the story God wants us to share with others in order to impact their lives and help them in their current circumstances.
Why should we tell our story? Over the last couple of days, we have looked at reasons why we should share our story. First, because it reminds us of the shoulders on which we stand, and second, because it reminds us of our past and what we should avoid in the future. But there is a third reason, and that is to point to He who is greater than us.
1 John 4:4 says, “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.”
When we share our stories and how we have overcome the difficult times in our lives, it directly points to the God whom we follow. Without God, there are things we could never overcome. The strength He provides us with, the peace in the midst of a storm, the patience and perseverance to keep going – these are all testaments to His faithfulness.
Everything we have is because of God. And when we share our story, many people (nonbelievers) will ask the question, “How were you able to get through that? In all the trials and trouble, how did you keep going?”
The answer, as cliché as it sounds, is God. It is because of He who is greater than us that we are able to overcome. Our testimonies are a direct reflection of the God we serve. And that is why He will allow us to go through such trying times…because we could never go through them alone. So when it comes time to share our story, we can point to the One who led us through these times.
God wants you to share your story. He wants you to remember the shoulders on which you stand. He wants you to remember your past and what you should never go back to. And He wants you to point others to the One greater than us!
