A Sense of Persistence
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” - Matthew 7:7
If you want to pray in a way that moves the heart of God, you should look to Genesis 18 where Abraham prayed a prayer that did exactly that. Abraham went to God with a sense of burden, a sense of boldness, and a sense of humility; but lastly, he went to God with a sense of persistence.
Abraham prayed continuously. He appealed to God, and he kept asking until he got what he came for. Something shifts in heaven when we pray with persistence. When Jesus said in Matthew 7:7, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you,” He wasn’t just meaning you should mention it one time and go about your business. It is in the present indicative tense, which means to ask and keep on asking.
The man in Luke 11 has nothing to feed his guest, and he goes to his friend’s house and knocks on the door and asks him for some bread. The friend says he is asleep, the door is locked, and his children have gone to bed. He does not want to get up, but the man keeps knocking and keeps asking. So, the man gets up and provides him with what he needs.
This is your sign to not give up on prayer. Romans 12:12 says, “Rejoice in hope, be patient in affliction, be constant in prayer.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says “Pray without ceasing,” and Colossians 4:2 says, “Continue steadfastly in prayer.”
God says those who ask will receive, those who seek will find, and those who knock, the door will be opened. Do you want to move the heart of God? You must stay pray with a burden, boldness, and humility. But you must also pray with persistence. Keep on knocking! And as Matthew 21:22 says, “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”
