Prayer As A Priority
“Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives, a distance of half a mile. When they arrived, they went to the upstairs room of the house where they were staying… They all met together and were constantly united in prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus.” - Acts 1:12-14
Yesterday we talked about the believers in the Upper Room and how after so much disappointment, trauma, and even heart break, they still prayed. You might be facing similar frustrations in life. You’ve had circumstances delivered on the doorstep of your life that you had not anticipated - sudden loss of a loved one, changes in your financial status due to circumstances on the job, health challenges due to a recent diagnosis.
And you’re wondering how did this happen? How can this happen? I’ve been faithful. I’m a good person. I go to church. How could these things happen to me? It’s in those moments when we are struggling with the circumstances of life when we, like the early church, must remain in posture of prayer despite the problems we are facing.
See, prayer is the portal that puts us in contact with God. Prayer is a conversation with God when we cannot talk to anyone else. It’s an intimate dialogue between us and the Lord. He will hear our faintest cry, and He will answer by and by. And just a little talk with Jesus makes it right. Prayer is what we should do when we don’t know what to do. It does not prevent us from having or going through problems, but it does give us peace and power to help us navigate our problems.
Prayer should not be like a spare tire that you just pull out when all else fails. Prayer needs to be a priority. What these believers understood was that we can do nothing without God. When all hell is breaking around us, it is in prayer that we find strength, hope, courage, and confidence to endure. No matter what you are going through right now, prayer is the answer you need. Always turn to God first. He wants the very best for your life.
