Leading In Faith
Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. – 1 Timothy 4:12
On 60 Minutes a few years ago, Valerie Jarrett told the story of her father, Dr. James Bowman’s first day on the job as a pathologist and geneticist at St. Luke Hospital in Chicago. Because he was black, they told him not to come through the front door on his first day on the job. However, he boldly decided to do so anyhow, and when he decided to walk through the front door anyhow everyone was aghast, and surprised.
The next day, Jarrett recalls, when her father showed up for work, all of the black staff members at the hospital were waiting at the front door, and when he walked in, they walked in with him.
The will of God is about God using us to open doors not just for ourselves, but for others as well. Whatever you do, whatever your lot or station in life, pray that God would use you to lift someone, help someone, and strengthen someone else.
The opportunities we have, the doors we walk through, the neighborhoods we live in, are the result of people like James Bowman who used their blessing to be a blessing. You never know how your step of faith could impact someone else to take a step of faith in their own life.
So remember, God’s will for your life is not solely about you. God’s will for your life has a much greater reach than you even realize. God’s will is why you connect it with the plight and the path of someone else, so don’t waste the opportunities the Lord gives you so that you might inspire someone else to follow His will for their lives as well.
