Trust God’s Plan
Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, so that where I am, there you may also be. (John 14:1-3)
In today’s key passage, Jesus is trying to tell His disciples that they shouldn’t worry, even though He is about to leave them. He’s communicating to them that the reason they don’t have to worry is because His departure is part of a broader plan. In response to their fears and questions, Jesus redirects their focus from fear to their future; from the pain of the predicament to the promise of God’s plan.
While none of them wanted to face what was about to happen, Jesus had to help them understand that what they were about to go through was a part of something greater that was orchestrated by the hand of God. They didn’t have to worry because God had a plan: a plan for their lives, a plan for their future, and a plan for their redemption.
What they were facing was a variable within the context of something greater that God has pre-ordained and pre-arranged for their good.
From there, they had a choice. They could either wallow in their sadness, or they could see that their situation was a setup for something greater. We have the same choice in our lives today. When we are walking into a season of unknowns and uncertainty, when we are in the midst of struggle and suffering, we can either wallow in our sadness, or we can see that what we are going through is part of something bigger and better that God is working for our good and His glory.
This is why Paul says in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for the good of those who love God and who are called according to His purpose. Disappointments, mistakes, setbacks, and shortcomings are all scheduled pitstops in the journey of life. And we must be sure not to miss the transformative power of our problems by assuming that what God intends to be a comma in the unfolding of His plan is instead a period. With that in mind, I would encourage you trust God’s plan starting today. Believe that He has the best in mind for you, and that even when life isn’t easy, all things are being worked together for your good.
