Greater is He
“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” - 1 Samuel 16:7
Are you struggling to embrace the freedom that comes from Jesus? As we reviewed yesterday, Paul reminds us in Galatians 5:1 that we are free in Christ. All of us were born free and we should live our lives free. Freedom and acceptance are not something one has to work for or get permission from someone else to experience; rather it is something one simply embraces.
Embrace your freedom. Every person has value. Paul says we are free for freedom’s sake. The statement is circular, but Paul says it this way on purpose because he wants us to know that we don’t have to succumb to standards that don’t come from God.
Too many people try to negotiate their worth based on external and superficial stuff. They try to determine who they are by what they achieve, what they amass, and what they accomplish. When they don’t achieve or they fall short or their flaws are exposed, they develop a sense of unworthiness.
But Paul wanted them then and us now to know that our freedom, our right to exist and be happy, is independent of the external. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
God grants you liberty as an expression of His love and as an expression of your worth that comes from within. You have been fearfully and wonderfully made and He that is within you is greater than he that is within the world!
