When You Can’t Get Closure
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:19
Clarity. Over the last two days, we have been discussing clarity. Oftentimes, to move on and write the next chapter of our lives, we need clarity over a situation that happened in our past. We want to wrap a nice little bow around the past so that we can move forward into the future with everything tied in a knot behind us.
But there are times when, despite our best efforts and our best plan, we are unable to get closure from the people, places, and things that did not go well in our past. The person who mistreated you died before you were able to get an explanation. The person who fired you relocated before they told you why you didn’t get the job of your dreams.
And now you are stuck, unable to move into your future because of something unresolved in your past. Having to come to terms with the fact that something that you once considered very important is now over, can be a hard truth to process.
As a matter of fact, some people are so stuck and trapped by the pain of their past that they can’t move forward to embrace what God is trying to do in their lives right now. Can you relate? Are you struggling to move forward because of the closure you don’t have?
Yesterday, we said sometimes we must wait because God delays our ability to find closure. But other times, He does not allow us to find that closure at all. So what do you do when that happens? You look to Him.
Look, to move forward, you don’t need closure from other people. You might want it, but you don’t need it. The only thing you need is God. He will give you everything you need to do and He will give you the strength for all He is asking you to do. He knows what happened in your past. He is fully aware. But that is not preventing Him from moving in your future. Closure is great if you find it, but it is not a necessity. The necessity is GOD!
