What Is Your Rock?
“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” Matthew 16:18
Do you ever wonder what is your purpose in life? Maybe you ask yourself, “Why am I here? Why do I exist? What does God even want from me, anyway?” These are questions so many people ask themselves at one point or another. But the reality is, if you are still breathing, God has a plan and purpose for your life.
God told Peter, “… on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” So, what is your rock? What gift, ability, or resources has God given you that He wants you to use to impact those around you, or dare I say… impact the world? See, the experiences you have been through, the resources surrounding you, the people who have impacted you, all play a role in what God intends to do in your life.
Your experiences, resources, and environment are no accident. You were not “accidentally” born. The people you have come across and built relationships with, were not coincidences. The advantages (or disadvantages) placed around you that have created your circumstances aren’t by chance. God knew exactly how this would all play out. The gifts and abilities He has given you are intentional. And He wants you to use those as He builds His church upon that rock!
It might not be an actual church that God is calling you to start, though it could be. But God can make your ministry, quite literally, anything. Whether you become a professional athlete, musician, artist, marketing guru, web developer, or anything else, you have an opportunity to share the love of Christ. As a believer, God wants you to use your gifts and talents to bring glory and honor to His name. But first, you must identify what your rock is. Then, allow Him to show you how you can best use that rock to point those you influence to Him!
