A Desperate Man
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” - Matthew 7:7-8
Yesterday, we talked about the power of prayer. If you have been a believer for any significant amount of time, you have likely seen just how powerful prayer can be, or maybe you are still waiting to see just how powerful this amazing tool we call prayer really is.
In Genesis 18, we see a story of a man God had chosen, Abraham, and the power of his prayer. Abraham understood that the land his nephew was residing in was going to be destroyed by God. But Abraham stayed when the others left and pleaded for God to spare the cities for the sake of the good men and women who resided there. Abraham’s prayer was powerful, but don’t miss the state of Abraham’s emotions during this time.
Abraham was a DESPERATE man. When you google the definition of “desperate” you will see it says “feeling, showing, or involving a hopeless sense that a situation is so bad as to be impossible to deal with.” There is a lot of emotion associated with being desperate. Abraham understood that he did not have the power to do anything, but he cared so much that he was going to God with passion, emotion, and a need for God to spare his brother.
Are you looking for the results Abraham got through his prayer? Are you wanting God to answer your prayer like He did for Abraham? Are you praying from a place of desperation? Or in other words, are you praying with extreme emotion, serious passion, and heavenly hope that God will do what you are asking?
Matthew 7 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Notice, to receive you must ask. For the door to be opened you must knock. Are you knocking? Are you asking? If you are praying, and it’s God’s will for your life, it will come to pass.
