The Cost of Carrying the Cross
And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. – Luke 14:27
Jesus was very clear about one thing. Following Him would cost something. He said plainly that whoever does not carry their cross and follow Him cannot be His disciple. That statement was not meant to be dramatic. It was meant to be honest.
In Jesus’ time, the cross was a symbol of suffering and humiliation. People did not admire it. They feared it. So when Jesus spoke about carrying a cross, He was not talking about appearances. He was talking about choosing a life shaped by sacrifice.
Today, carrying the cross looks less like public suffering and more like daily faithfulness. It shows up in the quiet choices no one applauds. It looks like forgiving when you would rather hold a grudge. It looks like standing with someone who is hurting, even when it makes you uncomfortable. It looks like saying no to power, recognition, or advantage if it means harming others.
Wearing faith is easy. Carrying it is different. Carrying the cross means allowing Jesus to shape how we love, how we speak, and how we respond under pressure. It means letting compassion cost us something.
Jesus never promised wealth, status, or comfort. He promised presence, purpose, and life. The cross is not a burden meant to crush us. It is a path meant to transform us.
Today, reflect on what carrying the cross might look like in your real life. Not in theory, but in practice. Jesus is still calling. The invitation is the same. Follow Me.

Good morning saints, I am carrying my cross today. I am anxious, feeling a little lost, rent due, no money, no car, a job that isn't me but today because of Jesus I am going to carry my cross. I would like to ask for prayer from the church family.
nI'm also praying for all of you in Jesus name
