Prepared in the Field Before the Giant Appears
“The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” - 1 Samuel 17:37
Nobody sees the field seasons. They are quiet, repetitive, and easy to overlook. Days blend together when you are doing the same small tasks without an audience. Progress feels slow. Recognition feels nonexistent. Many people assume those seasons are delays, something to push through until real life finally starts. Scripture tells a different story. What happens in hidden places often determines how someone stands in public moments later.
David did not wake up one morning ready to face a giant. Long before anyone knew his name, he was tending sheep. That work did not look impressive. No one was clapping. No one was calling it preparation. Still, something was forming there. Courage grew when danger showed up unexpectedly. Skill developed through repetition. Confidence came from experience, not hype. The field shaped him before the battlefield ever arrived.
Unseen seasons build instincts you cannot fake later. Decisions become quicker because you have faced pressure before. Faith feels steadier because you have watched God come through quietly. Strength develops in ways that do not show up on the surface right away. Those moments matter more than most people realize. Public tests often reveal what private seasons have already built.
It can be frustrating when life keeps you in places that feel small. You might wonder why God has not moved you forward yet. You might feel forgotten or stalled. Still, development does not always look like progress. God often uses ordinary routines to prepare people for extraordinary responsibility. The work that feels repetitive today may be the very thing giving you the confidence to stand later.
If a giant has shown up in your life recently, pause before assuming you are unready. Think back to the seasons you thought did not matter. Remember the quiet wins. Recall the moments you handled things you never thought you could. God does not waste hidden seasons. What you learned when no one was watching is exactly what He draws from when the pressure is on. Preparation usually comes long before the moment makes sense, and God knows the timing better than you do.
