Prayer Changes Things
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)
On the last day of his life, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was standing up on behalf of sanitation workers, fighting for their rights. As he was taking his stand, he said, “The question we must ask ourselves is not what will happen to us if we stand with these sanitation workers, but if we don’t stand with these sanitation workers, what will happen to them?”
I would like to propose we take a similar approach in regard to prayer. Instead of wondering what will happen if we pray for our people and our circumstances, we should be more concerned with what will happen if we choose not to pray.
We should be praying about everything, just as Philippians 4:6 says, because prayer changes what you can’t change. Prayer moves what you can’t move, and prayer fixes what you can’t fix.
When you pray, your faith becomes stronger, your hopes become brighter, your decisions become wiser, your vision becomes clearer, and your doubts become fewer. Don’t you want all of that to be true about your life?
Prayer is your weapon. It is the means by which we bring the supernatural into the natural. It is the vehicle whereby we tap into the resources of heaven to give us power over the situations we face on earth. Prayer gives us supplemental strength to help us deal with our struggles.
So if you’re wanting victory, if you’re wanting clarity, if you’re wanting answers, or if you’re wanting peace, you need to pray. There’s no other way to experience the hope and peace of God outside of prayer.
