Faith That Is Willing to Work
So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. - James 2:17
The story surrounding the birth of Jesus makes one truth very clear. God reveals promises, but people participate in preparation. Divine intention and human responsibility always work together. God sends the promise, but He does not bypass the process.
Mary and Joseph are not passive characters. Joseph has to wrestle through confusion, fear, and the trauma of feeling betrayed. Mary seeks wisdom and support by staying with her older cousin Elizabeth for months. They both walk long distances with limited resources, no guarantees, and very real danger. The wise men leave comfort, security, and familiarity to pursue something they have never seen.
Faith never eliminates effort. It gives effort direction.
Believing that something good is about to happen does not mean sitting still and waiting for God to drop it into your lap. Scripture consistently shows us that faith requires movement. God does His part, but He does not do our part for us.
Many people want outcomes without inconvenience. They want change without adjustment. They want blessing without sacrifice. But promises often require leaving familiar places, restructuring routines, and stepping into uncertainty.
Work does not earn God’s favor. It positions us to receive what He is already offering. Preparation is not punishment. It is partnership.
Sometimes obedience looks like learning new skills. Sometimes it looks like addressing emotional wounds. Sometimes it looks like making difficult decisions that stretch you beyond comfort.
Faith becomes visible when belief turns into action. When something good is about to happen, willingness to work becomes evidence that trust is real.
God honors movement. He meets people who are willing to do the work required to steward what He is bringing.
