Give Like You Know Who Provides
"Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap." – Luke 6:38
When the Israelites brought their offerings to help build the tabernacle in Exodus, something remarkable happened. There was no drama, no hesitation, and no debate. The people gave to God confidently. They weren’t skeptical or reluctant. They didn’t hold back or question the integrity of their leaders. Instead, they gave freely, and they gave fully.
What’s even more striking is that when the workers reported that they had more than enough, the leadership had the honesty to tell the people to stop bringing more. There was no attempt to pocket the extra. No shady dealings. Just integrity. And that matters. A big reason people hesitate to give today is because they’ve seen money mishandled in places that were supposed to be trustworthy. But in this story, the people gave confidently because they trusted the heart of the leadership, and they trusted the hand of their God.
They also knew where their resources had come from. These were people who had just been set free from slavery. Yet when God asked them for gold, silver, and fine materials, they had it. Why? Because in Exodus 12, we’re told that God caused the Egyptians to give them wealth as they left. Later, in Exodus 16, God fed them daily with manna and quail. God had proven He could provide, again and again. So when it came time to give, they gave with confidence, because they knew the same God who gave it was more than able to provide it again.
Maybe you’ve been holding back in fear. Maybe you’ve been waiting to see more before you release what’s in your hand. But Scripture shows us something better. When we give out of trust, when we give from a heart convinced that God is our source, it changes everything. You don’t have to give out of fear or guilt. You can give from confidence. The same God who brought you this far is not about to stop providing for you now.
