Naming Your Walls
“What is your name?” - Mark 5:9
You can’t conquer what you won’t confront. One of the most important steps to breaking down the barriers that stand in your way is to clearly identify them. The problem with so many attempts to overcome obstacles is that the obstacles themselves are never clearly named.
In the story of Jesus encountering the demon-possessed man in Mark 5, Jesus asked a simple but powerful question, “What is your name?” That question matters because naming something gives you the ability to confront it directly. It’s the same with the walls in your life. If you never identify them, you’ll never be able to overcome them.
What are the walls in your life right now? Maybe it’s fear, insecurity, doubt, unforgiveness, or something else that’s been holding you back. Whatever it is, if you don’t call it out and name it, you can’t tear it down.
The Israelites marched around the walls of Jericho with a clear objective. They weren’t just marching for the sake of marching. They were moving with purpose, believing God for a victory over the wall that stood between them and the promise.
Your life is no different. If you’re going to make real progress, you have to be willing to name the obstacles that are blocking your way. Whether it’s something internal like bitterness or something external like unhealthy relationships, you need to clearly identify what it is so you can bring it to God in faith.
Take some time today to pray and ask God to show you what walls are standing in your way. And when He reveals them, trust Him to help you tear them down. Because when you confront your walls with His help, there’s nothing that can stop you from moving forward.
