Commit to Working on Your Wounds
"And he said, ‘I will not let you go unless you bless me.’" - Genesis 32:26
Healing is not instant. It takes time, persistence, and a willingness to do the hard work. When Jacob wrestled with God, he refused to let go until he received his blessing. He knew this was not a quick fix. It was a fight for his future, and he was committed to seeing it through.
That is where many people miss their breakthrough. They want healing, but they do not want to put in the time. They start strong but give up when the process takes longer than expected. Maybe you have felt that frustration. You prayed for change but did not see immediate results. You started working on yourself but got discouraged when things did not improve overnight.
I was reminded of this while spending 20 hours stuck in an airport due to snowstorms. I saw people give up, leave the airport, and miss their flights. Others waited, pushed through the delays, and eventually got where they needed to go. The same is true for healing. Some quit too soon, while others hold on, refusing to let go until they get what they came for.
Jesus Himself showed this persistence. In the Garden of Gethsemane, He prayed three times, not my will, but yours be done. He did not just pray once and move on. He kept pressing in, drawing strength from the Father. If healing, transformation, or breakthrough is what you need, you have to be willing to fight for it. Use every resource at your disposal; prayer, worship, Scripture, counseling, wise mentors. Whatever it takes, keep going until you receive what God has for you.
And when your healing comes, do not hide it. Jacob walked away from his wrestling match with a limp, a physical reminder of what he had been through. That limp became part of his testimony. When he returned home, Esau saw the change in him. He did not see the same deceiver who left 20 years earlier. He saw a man humbled, transformed, and broken in all the right ways. And because of that, their broken relationship was restored.
Maybe your wounds are still visible. Maybe your healing has left a mark. That is not something to be ashamed of. God often uses our greatest struggles as a witness to others. What you have been through may be exactly what someone else needs to see in order to believe that transformation is possible.
So keep wrestling. Keep holding on. Let God finish the work He has started in you. And when He does, do not be afraid to walk with your limp. It may be the very thing that brings healing to someone else.
