Called to Something Greater
"Come, follow me, and I will make you fishers of men" – Matthew 4:19
There comes a moment in every believer’s life when we have to stop and ask ourselves a question that changes everything. Am I just living, or am I living for something greater?
James and John could have stayed with their father Zebedee. They had a business, a trade, and a clear path forward. But when Jesus came walking down that shoreline and called them to follow Him, they dropped what was comfortable and stepped into what was greater. They walked away from catching fish for survival and stepped into catching souls for the Kingdom.
A legacy mindset doesn’t just think about what makes sense right now. It asks, what will matter in the end? It pushes you past the temporary, and into the eternal. Like those road workers paving highways while others sleep, when you say yes to the call of God, you might be working in places few people notice. You might be planting seeds you will never see bloom. But that is what greatness looks like in the Kingdom. It’s not about recognition. It’s about obedience.
You might be a teacher, but you’re not just teaching. You’re shaping the next generation. You might be a parent, but you’re not just parenting. You’re laying down the spiritual foundation your kids will stand on. You might be a nurse, a builder, a cashier, a coach, or a janitor. But when your work becomes an offering to the Lord, and when your life becomes a tool for His glory, then you are doing something greater.
Jesus never calls us to stay stuck in what is familiar. He calls us to walk in faith and trust Him with the results. That’s what those first disciples did. They left behind their nets because they understood the difference between what they were used to and what God wanted to use them for.
What nets is God calling you to drop today? What safe routine is He inviting you to release so He can take you somewhere greater? You may not have all the answers yet, but if you are willing to say yes, you will soon discover that life gets fuller when you live it for something bigger than yourself. You are called to something greater.
