The Legacy You Are Living Right Now
"A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children" – Proverbs 13:22
When you hear the word legacy, your mind probably jumps to something distant or reserved for people with a big stage or a famous name. But the truth is, legacy isn't something that begins when you die. It starts with how you live today.
Jesus' invitation to Simon, Andrew, James, and John was more than just a call to follow. It was a moment that shaped their legacy. They were ordinary fishermen, known by their trade, likely expecting to pass their boats and nets to the next generation. But Jesus called them to something that would ripple far beyond their lifetimes. They left their nets behind, and through their obedience, they stepped into a story that is still being told today.
That’s the power of saying yes to a God-sized assignment. Your legacy may not be written in a gospel or quoted by millions, but it will be remembered by the people whose lives were touched because you chose to live on purpose. That friend you encouraged when they were close to giving up. That child you prayed over. That quiet, consistent faith that showed someone what trusting God really looks like.
Sometimes we think our days don’t matter because they feel small or repetitive. But heaven sees every choice you make. Every moment of obedience, every step of faith, every act of love is recorded and remembered. You may not feel like you're building anything extraordinary, but you are. Your legacy is not a title or a moment. It is a life lived with intention.
What are you building today that someone else can stand on tomorrow? What kind of inheritance are you preparing that has nothing to do with money, but everything to do with character, courage, and faith?
Don’t underestimate the power of your current obedience. The words you speak, the habits you form, the love you show, and the integrity you walk in are all laying the foundation for someone else's future. Legacy isn’t just what you leave behind. It’s what you live right now.
