Power to Change Lives
"Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease."- Jeremiah 29:6
When you’re in a season of waiting, it’s easy to focus on your immediate needs and struggles. You may feel like it’s hard enough to make it through today, much less think about tomorrow or the next generation. But God has a different perspective. Even in the middle of hardship, He calls you to think beyond yourself, beyond your current season, and to consider the legacy you’re leaving.
In Jeremiah 29:6, God told the Israelites, who were in exile, far from home, and living in uncertainty, to continue growing their families. He instructed them to have children, and even to plan for their children’s future marriages. In other words, they were to focus on the future, even in the midst of their present hardship. They were still called to leave a legacy, even when everything around them seemed unstable.
God is calling you to do the same. It may not look like literal children, but every day, you have the opportunity to sow seeds for the next generation. Whether it’s through your actions, your prayers, your character, or the example you set, you are always leaving a mark on the lives of others. Even in your waiting, even in your struggles, you are creating a legacy that others can be blessed by.
It’s tempting to think that you have nothing to offer when life is hard. Maybe you feel like you’re just trying to get by, and you don’t have much to give. But God’s command to the Israelites in exile was clear: “multiply, don’t decrease.” That means even when life feels barren or fruitless, you are still called to grow and invest in the future.
Think about the seeds you’re planting right now. Maybe it’s in the way you show kindness to those around you, even when you’re struggling. Or it could be in how you pray for others, trusting that God can work in their lives even while you’re waiting for your own breakthrough.
Don’t let your current struggles convince you that you have no legacy to leave. You are still making a difference, even in the waiting. Your faithfulness in the hard times is a testimony that others can be strengthened by. Your kindness, even when life is difficult, is a gift that others will remember. And your prayers, no matter how small they may feel, have the power to change lives.
