Not Yet
“I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and He turned to me and heard my cry.” - Psalm 40:1
Sometimes, we must wait on God. As we mentioned yesterday, there is power in prayer. God wants us to go to Him with every thought, worry, or concern we have. Nothing is too small. If you care about it, He cares about it.
You might be saying, “But pastor, I have prayed to God. I have given Him my request, and He isn’t answering me. He must not want to help me nor give me what I am asking for.” However, sometimes God is saying “not yet” instead of “no.”
In the Bible, Abraham and Sarah had to wait to become parents. Joseph had to wait to become one of the most powerful men in Egypt. David had to wait to become king of Israel. However, if they didn’t trust God, there would never have reaped the benefits of His blessings.
The question is, do you have enough patience to wait on Him? When the Lord says, “not yet,” that does not mean you should go ahead and figure out your own way to get what you want sooner. We should not scheme or manipulate our circumstances for short-term gain. In the wait is where we grow and learn to rely on God.
Getting ahead of God can spoil the blessings He has for us. You must be careful. God wants you to come to Him in prayer; but when His answer is “not yet,” rejoice! Know that what you have asked for will, in due time, be yours. And if not, He has something even greater in store!
