The Fight Left In You
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
After David suffers an immense amount of loss and opposition in 1 Samuel chapter 30, he asks the Lord, “Shall I pursue this band?” and the Lord says, “Pursue, for you shall recover it all.” That’s good news for David, but that also means that David has to fight to get what he wants. Redemption doesn’t just happen by divine osmosis. David has to go down to the enemy camp and get his stuff back.
What shouted at me when I read this passage was the realization that with everything David has lost, he still has some fight in him. There’s something I want you to understand. Even with everything you have lost, you still have some fight left. Don’t ever forget that. Look at David’s question, “Lord shall I go after this band?” In other words, should I fight for what I lost? Should I engage my enemy in battle? And the Lord said, “Yes! Pursue.” If you want it, you’re going to have to fight for it.
Now the fight is not a carnal fight. I’m not talking about going to your enemies and cussing them out. I’m not talking about keying someone’s car. No this is a spiritual fight. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 10: 3-5 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
You may be overwhelmed by the magnitude of what you’ve been through or are going through, but don’t get overwhelmed to the point you lose the fight in you. That’s the only way you’re going to get it all back, by realizing you’ve got some fight still left in you.
