You Have Another Chance
"And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’" - Luke 13:8-9
In the parable of the barren fig tree, the landowner was ready to cut it down after years of no fruit. It looked like the tree’s story was over. But the gardener steps in and asks for another chance, offering hope that the tree can still live up to its potential. The gardener wasn’t ready to give up, and neither is God when it comes to you.
Life may not have turned out the way you thought it would. You may have experienced setbacks, disappointments, or seasons where nothing seemed to grow. But just like the tree, you have another chance.
God’s grace means there’s still time to get back on track, to grow, and to bear fruit. It’s never too late to become who you were meant to be. That’s the hope in this parable, no matter how unproductive or barren things may seem, there’s still potential for growth.
What’s powerful about this story is that the tree still had value in the gardener’s eyes, even though it wasn’t producing fruit. And just like that tree, you still have value, no matter how wrinkled, torn, or stepped on you’ve been. Your worth doesn’t disappear because of past mistakes or missed opportunities. The key is placing yourself in the right hands, the Gardener’s hands.
The tree wasn’t growing because it wasn’t being cared for properly. And sometimes, we struggle to “level up” because we’re looking for help in the wrong places. We lean on people or situations that don’t have the wisdom we need. But when you put your life in the hands of God, the true Gardener, there’s hope, peace, and growth waiting for you.
Remember the hymn, “All in His Hands.” Whether it’s joy or pain, success or failure, when you place it all in God’s hands, transformation is possible. But there’s urgency here too. The Gardener’s grace is not indefinite. You have another chance, but it’s time to act. Don’t wait. Take this moment to give your life, your plans, and your struggles over to the One who can bring fruit from the barren places.
