Carpe Diem
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” - Matthew 6:34
You have probably heard of the Latin phrase “Carpe diem.” It is found in a book entitled “Odes” by a Roman poet. It means, “seize the day.” In the poem, this popular phrase is contained in a larger sentence that says in Latin, “carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero,” which translates to, “Seize the day, put very little trust in tomorrow.”
The statement argues that the future is unknown, so don’t wait to do tomorrow what you can do today. Even Jesus would convey similar thoughts in Matthew 6:34 when He said, “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
The point is to never allow your hopes to be extinguished, your progress postponed, nor your steps forestalled by the perils of the past or the anxieties of the future. Seize the day. Take hold of the possibilities that lie before you instead of allowing what may become in the future to incarcerate you.
Don’t allow fear, doubt, and regret to keep you from doing, getting, and possessing all that God has in store for you. God has an amazing plan for your life, and He wants to take you on an amazing journey to places you never knew you could go.
But that journey doesn’t start tomorrow; it starts TODAY. Do not go to bed another night letting the day slip away, saying “I’ll start tomorrow.” God is ready to lead you on a journey greater than anything you could accomplish on your own.
Are you ready to go? It’s time to seize the day. Carpe Diem, my friend!
