The Only Choice
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.” - Proverbs 3:5-7
When we face the trying times of life, when a challenge is sent our way or a storm is thrown in our direction, if we want to make the best decision and choose what will be best for us over the long haul, we only have one option. God is our only choice. In Psalm 11 we see David ask, “How can you ask me to flee?”
In other words, he is incredulous that his friends would ask him to do such a thing. He asks that because he has an unyielding and an unwavering confidence in God. He realizes that his problems are big, but he knows that his God is bigger than his problems. Therefore, fleeing in not an option.
David asks in verse 3, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?” What he is saying is, as people of God, our faith in God rests on a foundation of trust, and if we destroy that foundation by not trusting in Him, we are left with nothing. So, we trust because God is our Protector and Way maker.
That is the background for Solomon’s declaration Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” What about you? Do you have a decision you need to make? Are you weighing the option of tapping out? Are you thinking about running from the storm?
If you are a believer, you have the favor of God on your side. He wants to help you and do for you what is ultimately in your best interest. This does not mean it will be easy, but it will be best. If you want the very best, you only have one choice. Run towards and not away from God.
