Hang In There
All the horns of the wicked I will cut off, but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted. (Psalm 75:10)
In the last verse of Psalm 75, the psalmist says that “the horn of the righteous shall be lifted up but the horns of the wicked will be cut off.” In ancient Israel, horns were a symbol for strength, power, and might.
The Psalmist is basically saying that when the wicked go low, God takes those who love him higher; higher because trouble and adversity is God’s preferred approach to increasing the strength of his children.
Paul affirms the Psalmist’s words with what he said in 2 Corinthians 4:7-10 “…that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.”
All throughout Scripture, it talks about the growth, the maturity, and the sanctification that will develop within us as we walk through difficult and trying times. As my Grandma use to say, “if it didn't kill you it's making you stronger.”
Friend, you are wiser today because of the trials and circumstances you faced yesterday. The Psalmist comes to the grand conclusion that God took what was intended to destroy him and employed it as a means to take him higher and make him stronger. And just like that was true for him, it’s true for you as well. You may feel like your circumstances are too much, but you have no idea how God is going to use these difficult times to make you more like His Son, Jesus. So hang in there. I promise it’ll all be worth it in the end.
