Approaching God in Humility
"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe." - Hebrews 12:28
Boldness in our faith is a virtue that we should aspire to cultivate. However, it is important to understand that boldness is not synonymous with brazenness. While we are encouraged to approach God with confidence and audacious faith, it must always be accompanied by reverence and humility. Let us explore the distinction between boldness and brazenness in our approach to God.
The verse in Hebrews 12:28 reminds us of the importance of offering acceptable worship to God with reverence and awe. This verse emphasizes the need for us to approach God with a deep sense of respect and humility. It teaches us that our boldness should never cross the line into irreverence or arrogance.
Boldness in our faith means having unwavering confidence in God's character and promises. It means approaching Him with audacious faith, knowing that He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or imagine. Boldness allows us to pray boldly, to step out in obedience, and to boldly proclaim His truth.
On the other hand, brazenness is characterized by an arrogant or disrespectful attitude. It disregards the reverence and awe that is due to our Heavenly Father. Brazenness approaches God with an entitlement mindset, demanding His blessings and disregarding His sovereignty. It lacks the humility to acknowledge our dependence on Him and His perfect wisdom.
As we seek to grow in boldness, let us guard against the temptation to approach God with brazenness. Our boldness should always be rooted in a deep reverence for the holiness and majesty of God. It should be accompanied by a humble recognition of our unworthiness and a grateful heart for the grace and mercy extended to us.
Let us strive for boldness in our faith, while maintaining reverence and humility in our approach to God. May our confidence be grounded in the truth of who God is, and may our audacious prayers and actions flow from a heart that is surrendered and in awe of His greatness. As we walk this balance of boldness and reverence, we will experience a deeper intimacy with our Heavenly Father and bear fruit that brings glory to His name.
