Valuing People Over Compliance
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." - Micah 6:8
The church is meant to be a safe haven for all people, regardless of their past or current struggles. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Too often, churches become more focused on enforcing strict rules and regulations rather than valuing people and showing them the love of God. When we place a higher value on compliance than we do on people, we miss out on the miracles that God can do in their lives.
The story of the woman caught in adultery in John 8:1-11 is a perfect example of this. The religious leaders were more concerned with upholding their strict religious laws than they were with showing compassion and love to the woman. But Jesus showed her mercy and compassion, valuing her as a person rather than condemning her for her actions.
As Christians, we are called to love and value people in the same way that Jesus did. We are not called to judge or condemn, but to show love and compassion to all people, regardless of their background or circumstances. We must remember that we are all sinners in need of God's grace and that our job is to point others toward that grace, not to push them away with our judgment.
Micah 6:8 reminds us, "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
When we value people over compliance, we create an environment where people feel welcomed, loved, and supported. We can then begin to see the miracles that God can do in their lives. Let us strive to be a church that values people above all else and shows them the love and compassion of Christ.
