What Are You Looking For?
“I waited patiently for the Lord; He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.” - Psalm 40:1-3
Yesterday, we looked at the people in the nativity story who responded to God when it was time; and as a result, they didn’t miss out on seeing Jesus. What a great example these people are. They got a sense that God was moving, received a word that something was about to happen, and got in line to witness Jesus’ birth.
It was an act of faith because they didn’t see the baby in order to start journeying toward Him. That is what faith is: when you haven’t seen it, but you believe it’s coming.
Some time ago, my daughters ordered a package, and when it arrived they kept telling me from the basement that they heard a ringing at the door. I didn’t hear a ringing, but when I went to the door, there was a package there.
I asked them how they could hear the doorbell from the basement when there was no doorbell chime down there. They said they were expecting it and therefore their senses were on high alert for it. The question I want to ask you today is this: what are you anticipating?
Psalm 40:1-3 says, “I waited patiently for the Lord; He inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.”
God wants you to wait with expectation. He wants you to wait for Him to do what only He can do. That is what faith requires. What are you expecting? What are you waiting for?
