On Your Own Time
“So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.” - John 16:22
As Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes 3:4, there is “a time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance.” Abraham was able to move on in his own time after the loss of Sarah.
The one thing to remember about grief is that it takes time because it is a learning process—it requires the brain to adapt to new habits and a new way of interacting with the world during loss.
Some may move on quicker than others, and some may only appear to move on externally, but may be suffering internally. There is no standardized timeline for the grieving process. There is no magic wand that can just remove grief.
But you must grieve in order to heal. A failure to grieve is a disservice to oneself because those suppressed feelings will often manifest into something unhealthy. You have to go through the process to get to the breakthrough.
It is important to remember that the pain you currently feel with not remain. You will learn to manage your grief, and you will experience joy again. John 16:22 says, “So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy.”
Take your time and remember that God with guide you through this time.
