Bounce Back
When David and his men came to the city, they found it burned down, and their wives and sons and daughters taken captive. – 1 Samuel 30:3
In the 30th chapter of 1 Samuel, David and his men were returning home from a defunct battle with the Philistines. They arrived home only to find that while they were away, the Amalekites had broken into their land, stolen their material possessions, burned their homes and worst of all, captured their families. The Bible says that they took captive the women and children. Anyone that was left at home who was unable to fight—their disabled, wounded, young, and vulnerable—the Amalekites took captive. But despite all of the loss, God told David, “You shall recover it all.”
You may have taken a loss last night, but tonight you can bounce back. That’s what I want to help you understand. Regardless of what you lost, what was taken from you, or what you had to endure, you can bounce back from it.
You can bounce back from being fired. You can bounce back from being let go. You can bounce back from rejection. You can bounce back from grief. You can bounce back from divorce. And that’s really good news, that our troubles don’t have to last for eternity. Our heartaches don’t have to be everlasting, and our setbacks don’t have to be forever. But that is only true by the grace and power of the Almighty God. He is the only one who can create beauty from the ashes. He is the only one capable of redeeming our circumstances for something greater. So even when it feels like we’ve lost everything, we can’t give up hope. Instead, we must have faith and trust that with the Lord by our side, we
can bounce back from anything.
