See Something, Do Something
I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord. (Ezekiel 22:30-31)
In today’s key passage, we are able to do deduce what was going to happen without a High Priest and the pivotal and crucial intercessors in the community of faith. The absence of an intercessor for the people is sure to bring destruction and judgment for disobedience. God’s appeal for someone to build the wall is an appeal for someone to partner in the protection of the people from the consequences of their destructive behavior that was listed earlier in the chapter.
God uses intercessors to be the moral voice amid a people that have gone astray and to be a voice of healing to those who have been wounded by the misdeeds of others. Just like intercessors were needed back then, they are still needed today. Our world needs the intercession of followers of Christ. We need all the help and prayer we can get. So why not make the choice to begin interceding for our families, our communities, our nation, and our world? Why not be faithful in praying that God would redeem our brokenness, our pain, our wickedness, and our distrust.
I remember after 9/11, Americans everywhere were given this advice from law enforcement: “If you see someone, say something.” I would like to remix that and say that we should have the mentality of, “If you see something, do something.” What you do, or don’t do, could make all the difference for someone else. Your intercession matters more than you even know.
