Pray Specifically
“When Jesus heard them, He stopped and called, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ ‘Lord,’ they said, ‘we want to see!’ Jesus felt sorry for them and touched their eyes. Instantly they could see! Then they followed Him.” - Matthew 20:32-34
If you want to get results in prayer, you first must understand you have to pray for the will of God. God will not answer you if you are asking for something that is against His will. But not only should you pray His will, but you should also be specific in what you are praying for. The Lord wants you to pray specifically.
There is a story in Matthew 20 of two blind men. Verses 30-34 tell it this way, “Two blind men were sitting beside the road. When they heard that Jesus was coming that way, they began shouting, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’ ‘Be quiet!’ the crowd yelled at them. But they only shouted louder, ‘Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!’
When Jesus heard them, He stopped and called, ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ ‘Lord,’ they said, ‘we want to see!’ Jesus felt sorry for them and touched their eyes. Instantly they could see! Then they followed Him.”
Jesus asked these men, “What do you want me to do for you?” He wanted them to be specific. When you go to write goals, you must be specific. If you simply write “lose weight” or “watch less tv” you are far less likely to achieve them. What is “less tv?” How much less? How much weight do you want to lose?
Without being specific, you do not have direction. And the same is true in your prayer. What are you praying for? God wants you to be specific! If you want to find results in your prayer, it starts with aligning your desires with God’s will. Then, you must be specific. What do you want from Him? Be specific in prayer.
