Seek My Face
“Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” - 2 Chronicles 7:14
We have discussed (1) that we are His people—we are chosen by God and (2) that if we want to access our Heavenly Father’s limitless power through prayer, we must humble ourselves. As we continue to look at the power of prayer through 2 Chronicles 7:14, we come to a very important part of our focal verse. We understand that (3) we must pray and seek His face.
What does it mean to seek His face? In the Old Testament of the Bible, the Hebrew word for “face” means presence. Therefore, when we choose to seek God’s face, we choose to seek His presence. This is an active not passive engagement. Just like being present is necessary for earthly relationships, being present with God is necessary for a spiritual relationship with Him. It takes time and we may need to sacrifice less important things to make sure we show up for God.
When we spend time in God’s presence and are obedient to His will, He will align our desires with His. His will reveals to us our character and shows us what areas we must work on. So, remember to set aside time in your day to seek God’ face. You will be a better person because of it.
