Your Best Life
“Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” - Genesis 22:2
If we want to better ourselves and better our lives, why do we procrastinate? We know living God’s purpose would be good for us. So why do we put it off for so long?
The reason is because living our best life, becoming the best version of ourselves, and achieving our greatest dreams, all involve one not-so-fun thing: sacrifice. In order to have what we want most, we must be willing to give up our complacency and comfort now. It takes sacrifice.
To follow God, Abraham was asked to sacrifice his own son — the son he and his wife, Sarah, had prayed for, for many, many years. Genesis 22:2 says, “Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.”
Now, for us, it might not be as drastic as sacrificing a loved one. But it is still not comfortable. Getting to where you want to go will require giving up that addiction. It will require swallowing your pride and failing (probably multiple times) before you succeed. It will requiring forgiving those you least want to forgive. It will require going outside of your comfort zone and asking for help when you don’t have all the answers.
We all want to be the best version of ourselves. We all want to live up to our potential, to live our “best life.” But your best life doesn’t come without sacrifice. Are you willing to give up what you want now for what you need most? If you are, you can truly live your best life! But remember, it will require sacrifice first.
