Accept Help From Others
“The Lord said to Moses: ‘Bring me seventy of Israel’s elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the tent of meeting, that they may stand there with you. I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.’” - Numbers 11:16-17
If you want to handle the stress and anxiety that comes with living this life, especially when you bear many (or extreme) responsibilities, Numbers 11 is a great chapter to study. Over the last two days, we have taken things from Moses that we can apply to our own situations when we feel stressed. We first learned that we need to be honest about how we feel. Then we learned that we must realize our limitations.
And after we realize our limitations, we have one more step to take. Learning from Moses again here in Numbers 11, we see that once he discovered his limitations, it enabled him to accept help from other people. Moses needed to learn the blessing and benefit of sharing the burden and delegating responsibility that he had taken upon himself.
After telling God that he was ready to die and asking God to pull the trigger, it is amazing to see how God responded. God responds by instructing Moses to find seventy men who are officers and elders over the people to meet him at the tent of meeting. God told him, “I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.”
Once God sends help, you must be willing to accept it. God never intended for you to carry the burden alone. As we learned yesterday, we have limits. And there are things we take on sometimes that God never intended for us.
He does not expect you to bear the burden alone. As He did with Moses, He will do for you. He will help you. And He will send you help. But the question is, will you let go of the pride and accept the help, or will you continue to stress yourself out trying to do everything alone? As the African proverb says: “If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far go together.”
