Praying Beyond Yourself
"Then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head." - 1 Samuel 1:11
When you look at the story of Hannah, you see that her prayer was different. It wasn’t just about what God could do for her. It was about what God could do through her. While she longed for a child, her prayer went beyond her own desires. She promised that if God blessed her with a son, she would dedicate him entirely to God’s service.
This wasn’t just a prayer for personal relief or fulfillment. It was a prayer that would impact the lives of many. And God answered her prayer, giving her Samuel, who would grow up to be a mighty prophet and leader for Israel.
Too often, we reduce prayer to what God can do for us. Our comfort, our finances, our dreams. But powerful prayer isn’t just about asking God to make our lives better. It’s about asking God to use us to bless others. Hannah’s prayer was sacrificial. She was willing to give her greatest blessing right back to God.
What would happen if our prayers went beyond ourselves? If we prayed for God to use us to bring healing, hope, and change to those around us? It’s easy to focus on what we need, but God calls us to think bigger.
Are your prayers just about you and no one else? Or are you willing to pray like Hannah, asking God to bless you so that you can be a blessing to others? God is still looking for people who will pray beyond their own benefit. People who will stand in the gap and ask Him to work not just for their good, but for the good of the world.
Are you willing to pray beyond yourself? Because real prayer goes beyond your own desires and reaches out to transform the lives of others.
