Spiritual Stamina
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” - 2 Peter 3:9
The gap in time from when we want God to answer to the revelation and manifestation of that prayer can be very tough to wait through. This kind of waiting requires spiritual stamina.
Abram and his wife Sarai waited twenty-five years for the birth of their son after God had promised Sarai, she would give birth. She was 90 by the time her son, Isaac, was born. This time frame tested the faith of Abram and Sarai and forced them to have spiritual stamina as they waited not days… not months… but 25 YEARS to see the manifestation of God’s promise.
There are many reasons God chooses to take His time when answering our prayers. Sometimes, it is simply because we are not ready to receive all that He wants to give. Other times, it is so that we learn to value what we are given. But it is also to build our spiritual endurance.
God wants to give you the desires of your heart (when they are in line with His will). He also desires a relationship with you. He knows that when you have a request, you are dependent upon Him and will spend time with Him. This builds spiritual stamina and is a process that will grow you closer to Him. It allows God to reveal other things to you that will grow you into the person He ultimately wants you to be. It also shows God that you want His hand and not only what is in it.
So, as you wait, remember that every God and perfect gift arrives in God’s time. And God’s blessings will not lack God’s supply. He wants a strong relationship with You that that when you are blessed, you will glorify Him and be a blessing to others.
