Fellowshipping With Other Believers
Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. (Acts 2:43-44)
Right now, we find ourselves in the midst of a time when people are buying into the idea that they don’t need church fellowship. They think that turning on their televisions, opening their laptop, or using an app on their phone to watch a service solely will check the fellowship box.
But what creates a contagious spirit in the church is an understanding that we require more than just hearing a sermon on a video or a podcast. We need one another as fellow believers and disciples. We need community. We need fellowship.
The saints in Acts chapter two seemed to have known this. They realized that fellowship takes place when we make deposits in one another, when we are able to communicate empathically with one another, and when we develop meaningful partnerships. That’s what true Christian fellowship is, and it’s something we can’t cast aside, even when our world is in the midst of such isolation.
For some people it is difficult, if not impossible, right now to attend church, whether you are taking precautions for your health or your church is closed during quarantine. However, even if you can’t get to church, I would encourage you to reach out to your fellow believers and pursue community and fellowship. Whether you just talk on the phone, video chat, or schedule a safe in person meeting, you need to continue fellowshipping with your brothers and sisters in Christ. The Lord created us for community, so let us not put community on the backburner, even when that’s the easier option.
