Do the Work on What Needs to Be Repaired
"So we rebuilt the wall, and all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a mind to work." - Nehemiah 4:6
Everyone has something in their life that has been torn down. Maybe it was your confidence after a failure. Maybe it was your trust after a betrayal. Maybe it was your faith after disappointment. The enemy has a way of attacking the very things that make you feel secure, and if you are not careful, you can spend years living in the ruins of what was destroyed.
That is why Nehemiah’s story is so powerful. When the people of God returned to Jerusalem, the first thing they did was address the damage. The walls of the city had been in ruins for decades, leaving them vulnerable. They could have ignored it. They could have accepted the destruction as their new normal. But instead, they made up their minds to rebuild.
The key to their success was not that the work was easy. It was not that the pain of their past had disappeared. It was that they had a heart and a mind to work. They refused to let what the enemy had destroyed define them. They did not try to move forward while pretending nothing had happened. They confronted the damage and did the work to repair what was broken.
What about you? What has been torn down in your life that still needs to be rebuilt? Maybe you need to do the work of healing from past trauma, seeking counseling, or confronting an addiction that has controlled your life. Maybe it is time to restore a broken relationship or take steps to improve your health. Maybe you need to rebuild your faith, recommit to prayer, or start showing up consistently for worship.
Whatever it is, do not let what happened to you be the end of you. Do not let the ruins remain untouched while life moves on. Healing does not just happen. Restoration does not just fall into place. You have to make the decision to start rebuilding.
What step will you take to repair what has been broken? Whatever it is, do it with the mindset of someone who refuses to let the past have the final say. Make up your mind to work and watch what God will do.
