“So I Will Be”
“As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.” - Joshua 1:5
When God spoke to Joshua, He wasn’t just giving him empty words of encouragement; He was laying out a promise that Joshua could stand on. “As I was…” That phrase isn’t just a comforting thought; it’s God’s resume, His track record of faithfulness and reliability. It’s a reminder that God’s past actions are a strong indicator of His future actions.
Think about your own life. Even if things aren’t perfect right now, you’ve had experiences with God before. Maybe you’ve walked through surgery, faced a miscarriage, or dealt with a foreclosure.
Yet, here you are. You’ve seen God come through for you in the past. You have firsthand knowledge of His goodness and faithfulness. Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson wisely said, “The wasness of God is a dictation of the futureness of God.” This means that what God was for you yesterday, He will be for you today and tomorrow. If He was a deliverer before, He will be a deliverer now. If He was a provider in your past, He will be a provider in your present and future.
When God says, “As I was, so I will be,” He is inviting you to trust in His consistency. No matter how rough the road gets or how tough the going becomes, you have a solid promise. God is not fickle. People may change, friends may walk out, but God’s faithfulness remains unshakable. His commitment to you is unwavering.
And let’s not overlook the final part of this promise: “I will not…” This isn’t just about God’s presence; it’s about His unyielding support. The worst thing that could happen isn’t just having difficult days or feeling lonely.
The worst thing would be if God failed you or abandoned you. But God promises He will not do that. He won’t shut the door on you or leave you stranded. Even when your circumstances seem overwhelming, remember that God’s promise stands firm. He will not fail you. He will not forsake you.
As you face the challenges and uncertainties of life, hold onto this promise. God’s past faithfulness is your assurance for the future. Stand on the truth that, regardless of what happens, God is with you, He will not fail you, and He will not forsake you. That is a promise you can always count on.
