Refocusing for a New Chapter
"We will keep your name close." - Psalm 75:1
In the pursuit of writing a new chapter in our lives and changing the narrative, the wisdom of the Psalmist offers a transformative key: refocus your attention. When faced with the absence of clear closure and understanding, the Psalmist provides a powerful example. Instead of dwelling on the actions of his enemies, he declares, "and we will keep your name close."
In the preceding psalms, the Psalmist grapples with the challenges posed by adversaries, recounting the injustices and hardships. Yet, at a pivotal moment, a shift occurs. There's a conscious decision to stop rehearsing the deeds of the enemies and, instead, to focus on what God can do for him.
This intentional act of refocusing is a critical step toward writing a new chapter. It involves redirecting our attention from the pains of the past to the promises of the future. In the absence of clear closure, fixating on the actions of those who have wronged us can become a stumbling block, hindering our ability to move forward.
Keeping God's name close signifies a deliberate choice to center our thoughts, emotions, and expectations on the character and abilities of God. It's an acknowledgment that, despite the uncertainties of our circumstances, God remains constant and capable of transforming our story.
Refocusing our attention is not a denial of the challenges we've faced or a dismissal of the need for closure. Rather, it's a strategic decision to shift the focal point. Instead of dwelling on the hurts and injustices, we fix our gaze on the One who holds the power to redeem, heal, and shape a new narrative.
So, in your journey toward a new chapter, take a cue from the Psalmist. When closure is elusive and understanding is lacking, intentionally refocus your attention. Turn your gaze from the hurtful chapters of the past and fix it on the promises and possibilities God offers.
As you keep God's name close, you align yourself with the source of strength, grace, and transformation. Embrace the power of refocusing, allowing it to pave the way for a new chapter, a chapter marked by the unwavering presence of God and the potential for a story infused with hope, healing, and redemption.
