Move in Love
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” - Colossians 3:13-14
One of the easiest ways to forgive someone who has done you wrong is simply to “move in love.” You might be thinking, “But you don’t know what they’ve done to me...”
You are right. I do not. But it doesn’t matter, we have all been wronged and we have also wronged others. We all struggle with different things. And though their struggles might not be the same as yours, you should be equally empathetic to the idea that they too are human.
God doesn’t say “forgive once you understand.” He just wants you to forgive. How do you do that when it seems impossible? You choose to move in love.
Why love? Colossians 3:14 says, “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
What part of that passage catches your attention? If you are struggling to forgive someone, you’re probably struggling to love them. But when you truly love someone, you aren’t keeping a record of rights and wrongs. You aren’t self-seeking or easily angered.
Do you want to know how to forgive the unforgivable? Move in love.
