Tomorrow’s Script
“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 3:13-14
If you have struggled with hanging onto your past for far too long, today’s message is for you. Regardless of what transpired yesterday, the script for your tomorrow has yet to be written.3 Whatever you had hoped for, dreamed for, or worked for is still possible!
With this in mind, I want to share a brief story with you. A man approached a little league baseball game one afternoon. He asked a boy in the dugout what the score was. The boy responded, “18-0, and we’re behind.” “Boy,” the spectator said, “I bet you’re discouraged.” “Why should I be discouraged?” the boy replied. “We haven’t even gotten up to bat yet.”
That’s the mindset I want you to have today. You haven’t even gotten up to bat yet. Rev. Paul Jones said, “I’ve had some good days. I’ve had some hills to climb. I’ve had some weary days and some sleepless nights.”
You’ve cried. You’ve been let down. You’ve had bad news you hadn’t anticipated, and you’ve had loved ones go home to be with the Lord. You might know what it’s like to have had bills you couldn't pay and days you were so sick you thought it was the end.
And when that happens, the enemy tempts you to stay home, have a pity party, and throw in the towel. But I want to encourage you: don’t let your situation determine your expectation. Philippians 3:13-14 reminds us, “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
If you are struggling to let go, remember, yesterday is gone. Tomorrow’s script hasn’t been written yet. God has so much in store for your life. You haven’t even gotten to bat yet. It’s time to take a swing, let go of yesterday, and swing for the fences.
